As per Wikipedia Search Engine Optimization is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid (“organic”) search results.

For SEO your site should be properly organized, you use good Keywords and at appropriate places, allow Search engines to Index content of your site and make a good Link building strategy.

Proper Site Structure:

Keep the structure of the site simple and logical. It makes sure that how easy search engines can “crawl” and index your website. Create pages and sections that follow some sort of hierarchy (meaning categories and sub-sections).

Here’s the order in which you should conduct on-page optimization:

• Use unique Titles & Descriptions for all your pages.
• Insert appropriate keywords.
• Use H1 tags for Headings and use similar content as in title tag.
• Use H2 tags for sub headings or categories.
• Avoid iframes if possible.
• With images don’t forget to add alt attributes and with proper description.
• Add title attributes to links.
• All pages of your site should be inter-connected to each other.
• Make your site multi-device ready.
• Add social media and sharing buttons to promote engagement and sharing.

Selecting Keywords:

Select appropriate keywords for your site are the most important step in SEO process. Do a thorough research in selecting good keywords. Make use of Google keyword Planner to select related and best keyword combinations for your content. Keep the number of keywords limited and relevant to your content. Don’t forget to add location specific keywords, in case your sites services are location specific. (Ex. Medical shop in Delhi)

Title Tag:

Title should be descriptive and in between 50-60 characters as Google typically displays the first 50-60 characters of a title tag in search pages. (Avoid duplicate Title Tags)

Description meta tag:

Meta descriptions can be any length, but search engines generally truncate snippets longer than 160 characters. It is best to keep Meta descriptions between 150 and 160 characters. (Avoid duplicate Description Meta Tags)

Link Building:

Getting quality backlinks for your site is must for good ranking in Search Engines.

• Join good forums and blogs and comment actively.
• Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn are best places to get backlinks and traffic for your site. Remain active on social media and make your Company or site page there.
• Add RSS feeds on your site.
• Submit your site to DMOZ and top directories.
• Join Yahoo Groups, Stackoverflow and other Q&A Sites.
• Try to make guest posts on good blogs.
• Don’t try to buy Paid links. Backlinks from bad sites may harm your SEO.

Indexing:

After you completed and optimized your site now it’s time to submit your site to Search engines and get the pages index.

• Submit your site to Google and other search engines.
• Create Account in Google Webmasters and submit XML Sitemap
• Let Google crawl your site and index.
• Make use of Fetch as Google tool in Google webmasters.
• Keep an eye on HTML improvements and crawl errors.
• Check Robots.txt to see if it’s not blocking any pages for crawlers or allowing any unwanted pages to crawlers.
• Regularly monitor and optimize your site’s performance and load times.
• Use site performance testing tools like Page Speed or WebPagetest for optimization needed.
